Accelerometers

Accelerometers are popular sensors used to measure linear acceleration. So when you move your mobile phone you can control apps or even games just by accelerometers. We offer Arduino compatible accelerometers from manufacturers such as SparkFun as well as cheaper options. Check their parameters to make sure they fit your project. Also, if you have any questions, check out our technical support, learning page or forum.

What is an accelerometer?

Accelerometer, as you the name indicates, measures the acceleration of an object. Taking even one step further back, acceleration is the pace at which a given object gains speed and is measured respectively as meters per second squared. Accelerometers are used widely in consumer electronics from phones through game controllers.

Arduino accelerometers

All the accelerometers in our offering are compatible with Arduino. SparkFun accelerometers have specially defined libraries and easy to follow hookup guides for the basic Arduino boards. So if you are worried about how to make your accelerometer work with Arduino, you don´t have to anymore - it is as easy as it get and you can hit your Arduino project straight away.

How to choose your accelerometer for Arduino or any other board

When choosing accelerometer, there is three things you need to have on your mind - its range (the extreme measurements it can read), the interface (how are you going to connect any device that can show the read-outs to you), energy consumption (you need to get it going with a battery, so probably you wouldn´t want it to be energy monster) and any other potential features. Even you want to learn more about how to choose an accelerometer, check the specific guide on our blog
