Beauty of Arduino´s universality
What makes Arduino such a great board is to a great extent its universality, Arduino goes with pretty much any electronic component both on the sensor end as on the output and the same goes for the power supply. You can feed it via USB port or an external port DC 5.5-2.5mm. The great thing about USB port is its versatility and the fact that you can use it for both power supply and data transfer. However, you have to take into consideration its limitations especially when it comes to to maximum current intensity which is limited to 500mA - this limit might not sufficient for a range of applications, especially for servos. Nonetheless, obviously, Arduino has an answer to that as well - a DC port that is plugged onto Leonardo, Uno and Mega.
