Ultrasound sensors

Ultrasound sensors are widely used in Arduino projects. They allow for measuring the distance and are relatively precise permitting mapping of the surroundings. On the other hand, if used against soft surfaces they can turn out to be quite inefficient as the soft materials might absorb most of the energy and additionally in the closed rooms, the sound might reverberate numerous times potentially affecting the precision of the measurement. Infrared sensors

Infrared sensors are one of the most popular, cheap and easy form of wireless communication including distance measuring. The sensors are very easy in their way of work - they emit an infrared wave and based on it assess the distance to the nearest obstacle. Each sensor will have an emitter (usually in a form of LED) and a receiver (fotoresistor). Again, most important elements showing precision of the element include range and angle of the sensor.
