Description of ARDUINO PORTENTA VISION SHIELD:

It is the ideal industrial upgrade for the powerful Arduino Portenta H7 that adds a low power Himax camera, two microphones, Ethernet connectivity and microSD slot, everything you need for the fast creation of cutting-edge ML applications.

In addition to this new shield, Arduino also offers you free OpenMV licenses for the Arduino Editor.

Although this shield is designed for development, it comes with a built-in autonomous motion detection function. While it is on, the Portenta Vision Shield will detect motion, which will cause an activation signal to be sent to an interruption pin on the Portenta H7 motherboard, ideal for activating a board in low power deep sleep mode.

The Portenta Vision Shield provides high industry rated features to your powerful Arduino Portenta board. This hardware add-on will allow you to run integrated computer vision applications, connect wirelessly or via Ethernet to the Arduino cloud or your own infrastructure, and activate your system when sound events are detected.

Features of ARDUINO PORTENTA VISION SHIELD

The shield comes with:

  • A 324x324 pixel camera sensor: use one of the cores in Portenta to run image recognition algorithms using the OpenMV editor for Arduino
  • A 100 Mbps Ethernet connector: connect your Portenta H7 to the wired Internet
  • Two integrated microphones for directional sound detection: capture and analyse sound in real time
  • JTAG connector: perform low-level debugging of your Portenta board or special firmware updates using an external programmer
  • SD card connector: store your captured data on the card or read configuration files

Simplified integrated computer vision

Arduino has partnered with OpenMV to offer a free license for OpenMV IDE, an easy way to access computer vision using MicroPython as a programming paradigm. Download OpenMV for Arduino Editor from the professional tutorial site and explore the examples they have prepared for you within the OpenMV IDE.

Companies all over the world are already building their commercial products based on this simple but powerful approach to detecting, filtering and classifying images, QR codes and others.

Debugging with professional tools

Connect your Portenta H7 to a professional debugger via the JTAG connector. Use professional software tools such as those from Lauterbach or Segger on the top of your dashboard to debug your code step by step. The Vision Shield exposes the necessary pins to connect your external JTAG.
