Description of Arduino MKR FOX 1200:

The Arduino MKR FOX 1200 Arduino board offers a practical and cost-effective solution for adding Sigfox connectivity to projects requiring low power. This open source board can connect to Arduino Create for programming, and to the existing Sigfox infrastructure with its extensive Europe-wide coverage for data collection. The Sigfox infrastructure runs 24 hours a day without the need to do anything to maintain it, and you can always check its status here.

Features of the Arduino MKR FOX 1200:

Battery powered

Its USB port can be used to supply power (5V) to the board. It has a screw connector to attach a 3V battery pack. The board consumes so little power that it runs on two 1.5V AA or AAA batteries for a long time.

The MKR FOX 1200 gives you a great out-of-the-box experience when building IoT projects of any size: from the single sensor that monitors the temperature in your home, to an industrial deployment that covers an entire outdoor factory. The main processor on the board is a low-power 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M0 SAMD21, as on the other boards in the Arduino MKR family. Sigfox connectivity is provided by a Microchip® module, the Smart RF ATA8520, a low-power chipset operating in the 868 MHz range. In this case no additional cryptographic chip is needed, as the Sigfox network offers its own end-to-end security.

These features make it a great IoT node and a building block for low-power wide-area IoT devices within the Sigfox infrastructure.

 Sigfox connectivity

Arduino has partnered with Sigfox to offer you a simple way to connect devices to the cloud with zero infrastructure investment. Each MKR FOX 1200 comes with a free one-year subscription to Sigfox's data plan, useful for testing the Sigfox network. See the plan conditions in terms of messages per day on the Sigfox website. In terms of coverage, Sigfox covers a large percentage of the European territory. Consult this page on the Sigfox website to see if your intended area of application is covered.

Sigfox Starter Program

To ensure a better experience for you, our MKR FOX 1200 user eager to start a new project, Sigfox offers a special program called Sigfox Starter Program. Among other things, it will give you

  • Access to Sigfox's technical platforms (backend, build, etc.)
  • Access to Sigfox APIs to start playing with real Sigfox data.
  • Access to Sigfox's specialised technical content support, the so-called learning centre.

Once you have your board, order the software here.
