Who is this kit for?

In our experience, an 11 year old should be able to assemble the Ringo kit with a little help from an adult. The estimated construction time is about 5 hours, but building the Ringo kit is just the beginning!

After assembly, you will spend many hours creating your own games, apps and experimenting with hardware.

What you will learn with Ringo

  • how to solder correctly
  • What are the basic electronic components and what are their functions?
  • What are microcontrollers and some basic concepts of digital electronics?
  • how to program a microcontroller in C++, Python and others
  • how a basic mobile phone work

Ringo has a multitude of components

As if it were a real mobile phone, you can use its loudspeaker, microphone, colour screen, buttons, joystick, jack, numeric pad and so on!

Colour screen, ideal for your games

Ringo is hackable

Ringo is based on an ESP32 microcontroller compatible with Arduino. It is therefore compatible with many hardware expansion modules. Ringo was meant to be hackable, so it is fully customisable.

CircuitBlocks

A dedicated graphical code editor similar to Scratch or Code.org. Getting started with coding and programming has never been easier!

CircuitOS

CircuitOS is our custom operating system built on top of FreeRTOS. It currently only runs on this CircuitMess Ringo DIY mobile phone, but is planned to be ported to all current and future CircuitMess products. Learn more here

Ringo has a construction guide

CircuitMess Resources is a place for Ringo users to share their creations, exchange knowledge and download software created by others, as well as a collection of tutorials, guides and more. Check it out here.

Ringo ♥ Arduino

Both we and Ringo love Arduino. Ringo is based on an ESP32 microcontroller compatible with Arduino.

Therefore, it can be programmed in Arduino IDE (based on C/C++), the most popular programming environment for makers.
